Approximately ten percent of San Diegans are “digitally savvy,” according to Scarborough Research. The real surprise is that we ranked ahead of high tech metropolises Seattle and San Francisco! We were, in fact, number four, behind Austin, Las Vegas, and Sacramento.
How About You?
Do you own:
A PDA
A digital video recorder
A satellite radio subscription
An MP3 Player
A high definition television
A voice-over-Internet-protocol telephone
In the past 30 days have you used:
Online banking or bill paying
Read or contributed to blogs
Internet gaming
Podcasts
Downloaded audio
Downloaded video
Instant messaging
Have you ever used your cell phone to:
Download ring tones or play video games
Send e-mail
Text or multimedia messaging
Stream video
Access the Internet
If you’re reading this, you can check off at least one of these questions. If you checked off eight or more, congratulations! You’re tech savvy!

The very first annual Agua Hedionda Lagoon Celebrity Fishing Tournament will be held this Saturday (May 17th) in Carlsbad. This 248-acre coastal lagoon is the home of bass, halibut and spotfin croaker.
Frankly, I have a hard time imagining the celebrities fishing the lagoon, but it certainly sounds like it should be worth seeing.
The North County Times reports the following celebrity lineup:
Brett Cullen (”Goodwin” on “Lost”)
- Married reality TV stars Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry (VH1’s “My Fair Brady”)
- “Days of Our Lives” stars Arianne Zuker, Joseph Mascolo and Patrika Darbo
- Kyle Lowder of “The Bold and the Beautiful”
- Richard Steinmetz of “Passions”
- “Justice” from NBC’s “American Gladiators”
- “Blue Lagoon” star Christopher Atkins
- “Joanie Loves Chachi”/”Happy Days” star Erin Moran
- Roland Kickinger of “Son of the Beach”
- Film actor Marc McClure (Jimmy Olsen in four “Superman” films)
- “The Amazing Race” season five winners Chip and Kim McCallister

Marathons are no stranger to San Diego. In fact, it seems that nearly every weekend brings another walk or run to benefit a charity, fund a cure for a disease, or just get fit.
This weekend is no exception. It’s time to get on your running (or walking) shoes and get moving to benefit one of these causes, or just for fun:
American Cancer Society
The Relay for Life of Mira Mesa will take place on Saturday (May 17) at Hilltop Community Park in Mira Mesa, San Diego. This event honors cancer survivors an pays tribute to those lost to the disease, while raising money to help fight it.
Angelman Syndrome
Angelman Syndrome walk-a-thons are being held in 19 cities nationwide this Saturday. Ours will be commence at Liberty Station in Point Loma, and will raise awareness about Angelman Syndrome.

The fourth annual Barona’s $1,000,000 Quacker Dash will take place tomorrow (May 14th) at The Wave Waterpark in Vista. This quack-up of an event will benefit the San Diego Blood Bank, and features thousands of numbered little yellow rubber ducks thrown into the water to see which will dash to the finish line first.
These ducks are competing for prizes such as free gas for a year, a Disney World vacation, and a Barona Valley Ranch Getaway Package. You can purchase your Quacker online, or fill out an entry form at the General Store at Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino or at any San Diego Blood Bank Donor Center or bloodmobile. Each entry form has a confirmation code which will correspond to your particular duck(s).

According to the Chinese Service Center of San Diego, there are 30,750 Chinese people living in San Diego county (as of the last census). This represents about 1.9% of our population. But of course, you don’t have to be Chinese to relate to the victims of yesterday’s massive earthquake in China.
With death tolls climbing toward 12,000, people across the county, the country, and the world are looking for ways to reach out and help.
If you’d like to help, the Chinese Service Center in Kearny Mesa is accepting donations to assist the survivors:
