Housing Our Heroes

by Carole A. Lane on June 3rd, 2007

As noted in an , San Diego is in serious need of police officers.  Unfortunately, housing costs can make it incredibly difficult for those willing to protect and serve to also live in San Diego.

Smart Corner , a new development due for availability this summer, is offering qualified military personnel, San Diego County firefighters, and police officers a deal.  Those qualified can buy a condominium with only 3% down.  They can also receive a 7% discount on the price, which ranges from $200k to $900k, depending upon the unit, the size, , and so on.  (Click for , information on , and a .)

There are some affordable studios (making up 8% of the building), priced between $168k to $225k for singles making under $54,500, and couples making less than $62,300 together.  These are unheard of bargains for a unit in a new building in this region.

Smart Corner rooftop lounge and spa Smart Corner was designed by award-winning architectural firm Austin Veum Robbins Partners.  It includes a 19-story condominium development with 301 units and several floor plans.  The residential tower features a rooftop terrace lounge equipped with a spa and barbecue grills.  There a fitness center on the second floor.

Smart Corner office building Smart Corner also includes an office building, a ground-floor retail space, and a mass transit center.  The San Diego Trolley will travel between the buildings, making it possible for some residents to live without a car.  This is San Diego’s first mixed-use transit-oriented project.

Smart HOA dues start at $400/month and include cable, phone, Internet, trash, water, homeowner’s insurance, the fitness center, and rooftop lounge.

If you’d like a tour, Open Houses are held on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays by appointment only.  Call (619) 546-5835 for an appointment.
