La Jolla’s Harbor Seals
There has been an ongoing battle between a small group of people who want to reclaim Casa Beach for human recreation and those who want to protect the harbor seals’ habitat. This is a short documentary about La Jolla’s harbor seals.
Casa Beach is alternatively known as ”Seal Rock,” or “The Children’s Pool Beach,” depending upon which side of the argument you’re on. This film documents the history of Casa Beach:
Casa Beach is the only seal rookery in Southern California. The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 is a federal law protecting the seals, but that doesn’t seem to be enough to settle the issue. If you’d like to learn more about this issue, watch the videos and then visit these websites:

If you’d like to watch the harbor seals in their native habitat, you won’t find a better vantage point than the seawall at Casa Beach.
